Juan Pablo Reyes contributed his talent to the Rosemont Community and has made his mark here, inspiring our youth. Here is a little about the artist.
Juan Pablo Reyes, also know as JP murals (@jpmurals, jpmurals.com) is a native and local artist from Pacoima California. He grew up in section 8 housing projects and despite hanging around with the wrong crowd as a young child, he found his way through his developing passion for art. In high school, he was a recipient of the Ottis School of Arts scholarship. It was this opportunity that allowed him to venture deeper into art which expanded his horizon and artistic vision.
Later on, when he was teaching art, through this experience he saw the need to support and encourage kids to find their passion and chase their dreams. He believes that kids need to be inspired and feel excited about what they are learning and it starts with us. Our youth needs us to show up for them despite their background. He believes that you can chase your dreams and serve as a beacon of hope to those after us and hope that they can also advocate for positive changes within their own neighborhoods.
The murals were painted with the financial support of the Youth Policy Institute (YPI) and the collaborative effort of Rosemont students in 2014.
